The Birth of United Love

Starting on March 20, 1977, Bible study was held in various community homes during the months of March and April. With mounting interest in meeting as a group and studying God’s Word, a larger meeting place was needed. The Lord provided a place – The Dannie Burris Building on Highway 24/27 in Midland. (This building is now the home of Hair-Topia Family Hair Care Center.)
On April 24, 1977, the group met for the first time in the Dannie Burris Building which had been leased for three months. The name “United Love Bible Class” was suggested by Benjamin Stegall. Grace Baptist Church helped to meet the needs of the growing class by donating hymnals and chairs.
The first morning worship service was held on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1977 with 84 in attendance. Talk of organization as a church became rampant. Rev. George Shores of the Cabarrus Baptist Association officiated at the morning worship service on May 15, 1977. That evening he met with the congregation regarding organizing the church. On June 12, 1977, United Love Baptist Church was duly organized and constituted with 51 charter members. Rev. Fred Morris was called as interim pastor on July 10, 1977 and served until the first full-time pastor was called.
Land for a new church home on Flowe’s Store Road was purchased in March 1978. Groundbreaking for the construction of a 250 plus sanctuary and education space was held on September 16, 1979 with the first services being held in the new building on July 27, 1980. In 1988 an educational/fellowship facility was construction with dedication services held on November 6, 1988.
Since that time United Love Baptist Church has continued to grow always striving to fulfill God's purpose for this group of His believers.
